New Pet Training Options From Wholistic Woofers & Co.
We are happy to announce that our dog training division will soon be including two exciting new offerings for our puppy families: the STAR Puppy Program and our Hybrid Puppy Training Program! Scroll down to learn all about these programs.
STAR Puppy Program
The STAR Puppy Program consists of a series of classes designed to give your puppy the best head start in life. The acronym STAR is short for "Socialization, Training, Activity, Responsibility."
The program was created by the American Kennel Club as a way to prepare puppies for the rigors of its Canine Good Citizen Program, often considered a gold standard in real-world dog training. More importantly, like the CGC, STAR Puppy promotes responsible pet ownership while providing puppies with the tools necessary for consistent positive and useful behavior.
The official STAR Puppy Program and the test that accompanies it can only be administered by AKC-approved evaluators. Wholistic Woofers & Co. trainers are AKC-approved CGC and STAR Puppy instructors and evaluators.

Our STAR Puppy Program is a six-class series set to a regular weekly schedule. As part of the curriculum, puppies up to 6 months of age learn the basic skills any dog should know, such as coming on command and proper leash walking. Additionally, the course navigates pet parents through the delicate process of proper socialization and lays out how to create healthy, balanced relationships using appropriate exercise and enrichment activities.
And because many pet parents struggle with other issues like destructive chewing and bolting, commands relevant to managing these issues are covered.
A care packet, replete with training material written by us and bonus training items, is included to supplement class coverage. At the end of the series, a STAR Puppy test is administered to see how far each puppy has come. It is a pass/fail test in which all 20 test items must be successfully completed to earn credit.

We recommend that anyone interested in this program get started shortly after the puppy has received his or her first set of vaccinations. However, it is open to all puppies up to 6 months of age without major fear or reactivity issues (i.e., stress-based reactions that can result in significant harm to humans and other dogs). If you are unsure whether your puppy meets these requirements, feel free to contact us about your situation. We do offer consults for cases that need further examination to ensure proper placement.
